Being present mentally is perhaps the best benefit to trail life. I feel like every time I am out in the mountains, some of the smallest things propel me into thinking about deeper subjects like my place on earth and how important every living thing is in the big picture, here are some examples.

Interesting lichens and fungi paint a colorful canvas atop a boulder. When I stumbled upon this scene, it reminded me of some distant nebula far out in space.

I found this beargrass under a frozen marsh. It reminded me that no matter how cold winter can be, spring's rebirth will certainly come again

I love all the cool places that mushrooms can grow, sometimes under a nurse log or along a busy trail. This tiny guy was about a half of an inch tall and growing right on the Eagle Creek Trail. It is interesting that it would try grow even on the most heavily traveled trails around, life will carry on!
