I discovered Sambob from a buddy that has been scoping out all their cool color and pattern variations. I chose this Maine based company mostly because he will make custom sizing for taller folks like me. When you are looking for an Alpha layer that reflects your personality, look no further than Sambob. You can mix up the colors on the hood, sleeves, inner pockets, cuffs etc. Make it simple with all one shade and add a splash of color with the elastic cuffs that complement the shade. The cuffs also help keep this ultralight fabric from shredding at the ends of this Alpha 90 Hoodie where it counts on the sleeve ends and at the bottom. Also, they help seal the heat in a bit too. If you haven’t had an Alpha layer before, be weary of thorns and branches because they can snag the fabric and make a hole. The fabric can produce a lot of heat if you are active, but the wind can blow right through it too so you don’t overheat. Choose a 60 weight for hiking in or a warmer season, 90 for a mid weight option or 120 for cold conditions. If you are sitting around camp and need the layer to keep you warmer, simply wear a wind shirt or rain coat over it to seal in the warmth. Throw on the scuba hood with micro cinch adjustment to make the perfect fit for the weather. This tactic also works well if you are traveling off trail to keep the snags to a minimum. The sewing on this pup is top notch with extra close tacking that will keep this garment bomber for years to come.
