Gear Closet-Goosefeet’s Down Socks
I have nothing but good things to say about my Goosefeet Socks, they are an incredible investment in a good night’s sleep. Sometimes when you go to sleep in the backcountry it can be hard to settle in to your sleeping bag and get warm, especially when a storm has crept in or your feet are damp and cold. These are the times when these socks come in handy, once your feet are warm again you can get a restful night’s sleep. Think of them as an extension to your sleeping bag and a great way to boost your temperature rating of your bag. They compress to a laughable size and fit easily into your bag’s stuff sack and with a starting weight of around 2 ounces, you would even know your carrying them. I recommend getting the 75% overfill option which beefs the loft of these guys considerably. You can also get a waterproof over-botties to wear around camp, however with a starting weight of 1.7 ounces they are almost as heavy as the socks and down doesn’t like to be compressed, so I would just get the socks. This would be a good item to find on Backpacking Light’s Gear Swap, or get them new, they start at $65 a pair. Your feet will thank you for it at the end of a long hiking day when the night sets in, promise!
