Gear Closet-Hammock Gear’s Incubator Under Quilt
I’ve been using my 20 degree 950 fill Incubator for a couple of years now with favorable results. I originally thought a 20 degree of any style of sleeping device would be hot as hell on Southeast spring or fall nights. Even with a couple of ounces of extra down it, it’s all good. After using the under quilt in even summer here in a steamy southern slumber, I have found it to be just fine if adjusted properly. It has two small cinch spots on the inside corners of the edges of the quilt that make it easy to keep that heat in on chilly nights. I tuck in the big guys and then go for the little pups to make the final cinch a complete line for the ample draft collar to do its thing. The 10d fabric does great keeping out water when it gets a little misty. When you’re in the mix, it’s easy to reach down and do any adjustments for cold spots if you find ‘em. I use different weights of top quilts here in the Southeast. A 20 degree in the winter with down socks, coat and pants to optimize my temperature. I find that this is the best for a mixed bag of wintery backpacking where it’s so dependent your camp location, elevation and whatnot. A 30 in spring and fall that opens up to a blanket if it gets steamy. Finally, a 5o degree that is bomb in these hot summer months where you barely need to be covered at all. That being said, I never need to change out to a lighter weight under quilt for some reason and that’s kinda cool when there hella expensive. This is an amazing quilt that will last you for years if you take care of it along the way.
