One Day Wilderness: Chimney Tops TR.

Posted by on Feb 9, 2019 in Uncategorized | No Comments

This 4 mile RT day hike is one of the best short hikes in the Park. Begin at the TH off HWY 441 in a small parking lot and cross L. Pigeon on a sturdy footbridge. Soon after that begin the climb up to the viewpoint, mostly on very nicely constructed stairs of rock and wood. Along the way views open up to Mt. LeConte, Anakeesta Ridge and down to Beech Flats. I was expected to still see a lot of fire damage in this area, but it is recovering nicely! New saplings are popping up all over and the Chimneys themselves are getting covered in a nice coating of lichens and moss. I wish I had hiked this trail before the fire, but alas, I was still out West. This short stroll is definitely worth your while.
