One Day Wilderness: Curry Mtn. Trail

Posted by on Feb 6, 2019 in Uncategorized | No Comments

This worthwhile 6.6 mile round trip day hike offers nice views of Curry She Mountain, Rocky Ridge and the Meigs Mountain TR. as it lazily climbs up from Elkmont. Start out from Metcalf Bottoms and make a left, walk along the picnic area and cross the Little River Rd. to the TH with the big rocks in front of it. This easy going, but uphill climb crosses a couple of small streams coming off Curry He Mountain as it makes it’s way up to Curry Gap.

Once at the Gap, the trail becomes mostly flat with a couple of small uphills as it makes it’s way up to Meigs Mountain. Lovely views east into the interior mountains of the Park in this section put a spring in your step. While behind you, Rocky Ridge sprawls out above historic Metcalf Bottoms far below. Enjoy some nice lunch at the intersection discussing future Smoky Mountain adventures in this section of the Park before heading down. Once past the Gap, Curry She Mountain to the west stands high cupping a gang of small prongs draining off Meigs as they make their way down to the Little River.

Ramble on!
