White Rocks Overlook

I’ve done this wonderful hike in the Cumberland National Park for the last few years. This scenic loop never disappoints the traveler. With views up to the White Rocks and a couple of nice cascading creeks as the views improve with every step upwards. Start out at Civic Park and head up the old road bed/trail crossing the creek on an easy grade that delivers results. In a bit you hit a hiking only trail that heads to the White Rocks Overlook, I skip this steep one and head left up to the Ridge or Cumberland Trail. This time I hung a left at the CT for a longer miles day, it was icy and very beautiful day. If you are heading to the lovely Sand Cave area hang a right and continue on the ridge before hanging a left at the intersection. Drop down some stairs to reveal the waterfall that cascades off Sand Cave’s upper ledge. I like to cross the creek and heading past the falls to the Cave and beyond, making a small loop. Once back at the Ridge head left up higher to a rocky chute that leads you to the Overlook. Have some grub and head down to the hiking trail you passed up. Watch out for the couple of washouts while making your down to the trail you came in on. Get back to your rig and Bart some grub at the Dutch Treat Store that is only a few miles away. Ahhh yes, a great day for sure!
