Out of the tent: The Borah Bivy

The Borah Bivy under a tarp

This is my smallest and lightest bivy sack in my collection, at 7.8 ounces and a 10.5 x 4.5 inch stuff sack that it easily fits in. The bivy has a waterproof 1 piece silnylon floor and a Momentum 90 nylon top that it is highly breathable as well as being strongly water repelant due to its high thread count and coating that resists water. The head area has a large no see em’ bug netting area that keeps the bugs out while providing a good deal of breathability, that is designed to be tied to a tarp sling with an elastic cord to pull it away from the face and open up the sleeping space a bit. This bivy is best under a tarp when inclement weather strikes mainly due to the fact that it is meant to be breathable as well as being water resistant for a “best of both worlds” senario. Of course, when the weather looks good you can throw the bivy on top of a ground cloth like tyvek or poly pro and sleep almost anywhere!
