Loowit Trail Report

Went to Mt. St Helens on October 25th to get in one more trip before the winter moves in. I found the trail to be in good shape, thanks to WTA staff that did some much needed trail work last summer! Last time I did this loop was about five years ago and found this time around to be very similar conditions to that trip but far less severe. The creek coming off the Shoestring Glacier and the Muddy River on the east side have substantial washouts, but were still manageable. Also on the north side of the mountain with the streams coming out of the Breach and the Crater Glacier have been digging away a nice gullies that is not represented well on my Green Trails map and need a bit more caution. Also, I found the  map to be incorrect when it marks Trail 216 as Trail 240 Sheep Canyon near the old washout re-route. On the plus side, the Toutle crossing was a lot easier to follow and the trail had a lot more markers along the way making the more bleak sections easier to follow.
